RON BERGER

Ron Berger is a respected international keynote speaker who inspires a commitment to quality, character, and a citizenship in students. He is the Senior Advisor at EL Education, a nonprofit school improvement organization that partners with public schools and districts across America, leads professional learning, and creates open educational resources.

Ron is the author of best-selling education books, including: An Ethic of Excellence, A Culture of Quality, Leaders of Their Own Learning, Transformational Literacy, Management in the Active Classroom, Learning that Lasts, and We Are Crew: A Teamwork Approach to School Culture. He taught at Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he did his graduate work. He founded and directs the website Models of Excellence: The Center for High-Quality Student Work, which holds the world's largest collection of beautiful K-12 student work. Ron was a public school teacher and master carpenter in rural Massachusetts for over 25 years and received the Autodesk Foundation National Teacher of the Year Award.

KIVA MORGAN-HALL & THE MELAWMEN COLLECTIVE

The Melawmen Collective is a Contemporary Indigenous alternative music group from Ashcroft, BC, known for fusing hip-hop, rock, folk, and soul with ancestral wisdom and modern urgency. The Collective uses their music and art workshops to create connections between people through stories, history, music, and art, focusing on themes of cultural identity, historical consciousness, and community well-being. "Melawmen" means "medicine" in the Secwepemc language, reflecting their mission to heal, share, and connect communities through creativity.

DR. LEYTON SCHNELLERT

Dr. Leyton Schnellert is an Associate Professor in UBC's Department of Curriculum & Pedagogy and Co-Director of the Canadian Institute of Inclusion and Citizenship. His scholarship attends to how teachers and learners can mindfully embrace student diversity and inclusive education. Dr. Schnellert is the Pedagogy and Participation research cluster lead in UBC's Institute for Community Engaged Research (ICER) and co-chair of BC's Rural Education Advisory. 

His community-based collaborative work contributes a counterargument to top-down approaches that operate from deficit models, instead drawing from communities' funds of knowledge to build participatory, place-conscious, and culturally sustaining practices. 

Dr. Schnellert has been a middle and secondary school classroom teacher and a learning resource teacher K-12. His books, films, and research articles are widely referenced in local, national, and international contexts.
