About me
Jennifer Detjen has worked in the Central Okanagan school district, situated on the traditional lands of the sylix People, since 2005. She has taught grades 2-5, and since 2015 has been a Fine Arts and Physical Health prep teacher. She prioritizes serving her community and helping to build connections with staff, students, and families, and that a student's agency, voice and creativity are integral in their learning. Creating opportunities for students to contribute and be part of their community either through athletics or the arts, alongside her colleagues at Black Mountain Elementary, continues to be highly rewarding and educational. Jen is a mom to two teens who keep her on her toes and she thoroughly enjoys the experiences they share including skiing, camping and paddle boarding on the beautiful land we are lucky enough to call home.
