About me
Matt has taught students from elementary through high school across a wide range of subjects, including Math, English, Music, and Technology. From leading Rock Band classes to teaching Video Game Development, his diverse teaching background naturally led him to explore how games can be meaningfully integrated into the classroom. With nearly 20 years of experience using game-based learning, Matt is deeply convinced that video games can be a powerful force for good in education. His work focuses on leveraging the engagement and systems-driven thinking found in games to deepen student learning across disciplines. Currently, Matt teaches a Grade 9 cohort at Imagine High, where students integrate game development into all core subjects. Projects range from Super Mitosis Bros. in Science to a point-and-click adventure set during the French Revolution, to a role-playing game that challenges students to battle their way through World War I Europe. Through these experiences, Matt empowers students to learn complex concepts by designing, building, and playing their own games.
